🧵Threads: Yet another Social Media?
First experiences on the new text-based social media App by Meta
Hi! In this newsletter, I want to give my first impressions about a new social media I tried for some days, Threads.
It will only take 2 min to read, but it’s packed with impressions based, as usual, on my personal experience.
This is what the app looks like. I’d say very dry, and I like it.
At the moment of me writing this newsletter, the app has 92+ million users.
This is a world record that neither Mark Zuckerberg was expecting.
He was so obsessed with the metaverse and what people needed was just a decent Twitter clone app!
I want to list what I think are the Pros and Cons of this new app, based on my personal experience.
Pros
✅ Freshness vibes
✅ Already many users: it’s the “new thing in town“
✅ Super-easy onboarding (3-4 clicks)
✅ High and fast engagement
✅ You don’t have to start from zero if you have an Instagram account
✅ No Ads
✅ Smooth User Experience
✅ UI: image carousels, colors for different interactions
✅ You can post Instagram stories directly from the app
Cons
❌ No Gifs
❌ No audio/live events
❌ It shows your handle instead of your username
❌ Connected to Instagram, so same username and same audience: not good if you wanted to use Instagram in a different way
❌ feed needs to be customized
❌ no Alts on images
Overall vote: 9/10
The app looks great and promising, especially from the number of users’ perspective. The hype will go down for sure, so only after that we can really understand what’s the future of this app.
My prediction is that Twitter is gonna stay (like Facebook is still around) but that will not grow significantly in the upcoming years.
And about Threads, it will reach 1 billion users, and then the actual game will begin.
