Hey everyone,
I want to give you an update on what happened in less than two days since the launch of my new Open Source project, Rustcrab
The project seems very promising.
I announced it on all the platforms, including DEV, and that article has not almost 9000 views (also thanks to daily.dev)
I also wrote another article (yes, it has been two busy days) about downloading a new AI tool. In this article, I go through the installation and onboarding process.
I also made two live streams to promote the project, but I deleted the videos as I don’t see much value in rewatching them. However, some of those parts might be clipped and reused. If you want to watch them and create some content, contact me on twitter
And this is what the Github repository looks like now. It seems very active!
The Core Idea
The Core idea is to have an organized and up-to-date repository and website focused on the Rust programming language.
I had two choices:
work on it privately for a couple of months, then make it public
going public since the beginning and getting the feedback from the dev community,
I decided to go with option number 2, so there’s still not much in the repo, just ideas, some issues, discussions, and the main page.
This is how it looks right now:
The core idea is to collect emails and give updates on the status (this email is one of them)
Tech Stack
The Tech Stack I used:
Next.js with TypeScript
TailwindCSS
Substack to collect emails
NameCheap to get the domain rustcrab.com
That’s it for now. No databases and Docker are involved. I might consider implementing a login system to provide additional features in the future. Feel free to open an issue about this if you want
Current features:
Real-time GitHub Stars: Displays the current number of stars for the repository.
Light/Dark Mode: Toggle between light and dark themes.
Responsive Design: Optimized for various screen sizes using Tailwind CSS.
Developer Resources: Includes links to daily.dev and GitHub repository.
Social Media Integration: Links to Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Discord, and Instagram.
Added Google Analytics integration
Readme file (first version)
Added license and contributing file
Current Status
I have very good feelings for this project.
Current stats of the project, after approximately 40 hours since the launch:
193 GitHub stars. If you forgot to star the project, click here
6 contributors
11 PR closed
7 current PRs to review
5 issues closed
13 issues open
30 clones
23 forks
Look at this now: the project has been cloned 30 times and seen more than 10000 times, with over 3000 unique visitors, and today is not over yet.
What’s next
I will keep working on the project in the future. Honestly, it’s mostly empty right now.
Things you can do:
Star the project. The main goal now is to make it trendy. It is challenging but doable
